Photos & Maps from Thailand Trip

Monday, June 1st, 2009

I finally got a change to caption, correct, and upload all the photos from my trip to Thailand.  I really wanted to be able to chronical the geographical nature of the trip, and I purchased a GiSTEQ PhotoTrackr.  I carried the pager-sized device everywhere I went, and every 10 seconds it logged my current location.  When I got back I was able to mate this geographical information with all the photos I took, and after a lot of messing around with various software, I’m really pleased with the results.

Having lots of photos combined with chronological and geographic anchors has really added a lot of value to the trip.  It really gives me perspective of the adventure that I wouldn’t have gotten any other way.   In short, I’m really, really glad that I did it.

I’ve posted all my photos from the trip using Google’s Picasa Web Albums, which I chose over Flickr & SmugMug due to the fact that it seemed to have better GeoTagging support.

You can view the normal web gallery, the photos on a Google Map, or download a file which you can view in Google Earth (really, really cool!).
