Thai Truckers

When we passed these poor guys going the otherway on the road, I nearly fell off my bike from laughter.  Has to be about the damned funniest thing I’ve ever seen.  I wobbled the bike to the side of the road and we turned around.  Obviously had to get some pictures.

This is a truck loaded with three bundles of 1″ x .125″ ERW steel tubing, roughly 100 tubes per bundles, 10-12 feet long.  If I recall 1″x.125″ tubing is something like 3-4 lbs per foot. I figure they probably were carrying about 1200 feet of it about 3600-4800 lbs (perhaps as much as 2.5 tons) of steel loaded on this poor truck.  Heading up an incline, the load shifted backwards and the front end came up in the air.  We offered to help, but honestly nothing we could do.

I really wish I had of gotten a photo of a Thai Haz-Mat (Hazardous Material) truck I saw in Bangkok.  It was a dude with 3 high-pressure propane cylinders bungied to the back of a 100cc honda scooter.  I’ve realized that workplace safety is simply not a priority here.
